Fan Videos

The homemade fan music video crave lingered with me after class so I decided to look for more videos.  I was surprised to find that an overwhelming amount of the videos I found incorporated an Owl City song.  This was the same artist we saw in the fan made video with the little owl using the song “Fireflies.”  To be honest Owl City is not my cup of tea and I really hated the song “Fireflies” but I put that aside and watched some of the videos.  Some definitely stood out over others but this particular video stood out the most.  This song uses the song “Vanilla Twilight” and like we saw in the video in class it also one some sort of competition.

To be honest I like this video a lot along with the music video we saw in class.  I was a little confused to find myself enjoying to homemade music videos of a group I really don’t like.  I thought to myself what made these two music videos so enjoyable.  The singer’s voice, Adam Young, as we mentioned in class has almost of a childish aspect to it.  That voice I think adds to why I was so interested because it seems so innocent and almost fun.  Now his voice alone does not interest me at all to the music he makes but along with the videos it added something.  Both videos were honestly just so cute which makes it for me.  Along with the voice the videos are so childish and honestly so cute.  Both the videos incorporate a story of love that adds to the connection that people have to them.  Everyone has had some sort of affection towards another and the videos being so childish it reminded me of my first little crush.  It plays on the innocence of love and just puts a smile on everyone’s face.

  1. Awww this video was actually so adorable! I've never really watched these fan videos, to be quite honest I never really watch music videos at all, but this one was especially cute! I find it rather funny that, to me, these fan made videos seem to be better than the actual music videos made by the artists. These videos tend to capture the essence of these songs better than the music videos do. Besides, the cuteness of the video just automatically makes it better!

  2. You hit the nail on the head with the innocence these videos portray. We all have those memories of our first crushes and how giddy or nervous we felt. These videos speak to their audience beautifully because they capture that whimsy and become so relatable. I think the fact that these videos remind their audiences of the fun of love is what makes them so appealing.
